About the Artist

Michelle Thompson is a painter whose work explores endurance, memory, and quiet presence through layered, painterly compositions. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, she approaches each piece slowly, allowing texture, revision, and restraint to remain visible.

Her subjects—often animals or florals—are not treated as decoration, but as carriers of emotion and story. Rather than illustration or narrative scenes, her work focuses on singular forms, softened edges, and atmosphere, inviting viewers to linger rather than consume.

Michelle’s process is intuitive and reflective. Paint is built up, scraped back, and reintroduced, creating surfaces that hold both intention and vulnerability. Subtle shifts in color, imperfect marks, and visible brushwork are embraced as part of the final language of the piece.

In recent years, her work has evolved toward a more timeless, old-world sensibility—one that values stillness over spectacle and meaning over trend. This shift reflects a desire to create work that feels lived-in, contemplative, and enduring.

Michelle lives and works in North Carolina, creating paintings that are meant to be experienced slowly and returned to often.
